M-PowerHouse “Bridge 2 the Future: STEAM Symposium
Pittsburgh, PA.– May 3, 2019) – There is a national shortage of African American’s in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. A prestigious panel of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) thought leaders assembled at Hewlett Packard headquarters in Palo Alto called the looming shortage of U.S. engineers, the “New” American Dilemma. Business, education, and government leaders in attendance echoed the sentiment, saying it is a national imperative that companies act now to increase the number of underrepresented minorities (URMs) in STEM fields; otherwise, the nation’s ability to compete globally will be compromised. M-PowerHouse of Greater Pittsburgh seeks to address the educational, social and economic factors that become barriers to underserved and underrepresented African American and marginalized youth getting and staying engaged in STEAM-related careers by acting as a primary intervention source and career scaffold to STEAM professionals who introduce youth to a variety of STEAM careers and use edutainment, soft and life skills as a way to challenge one’s critical-thinking process.
